May 28, 2006...
It was prom night, we danced the night away. Everyone was dressed beautifully, we all felt like movie stars. I still remember how he smelled and how handsome he looked in his suit. It was 10:57pm, and the song " You and Me" by Lifehouse just finished playing. My head rested on his shoulder while he held me close... He leans in and whispers in my ear, "will you be my girlfriend?" I look up at him and smile warmly and say yes, right at that moment the balloon drop occurs... Everyone screams with excitement celebrating our last couple days of being seniors... I am now officially his girl.
This was 4 years ago, as I finished my last year of high school and I celebrated one of last adolescent experiences. I began my journey into adulthood and by my side was this amazing and beautiful soul I call my boyfriend. Stanton, my boyfriend has not just been a boyfriend these last four years he's really become my best friend. We've definitely been thru our share of ups and downs, but he's always there holding my hand and standing his ground in the darkest of storms. Being with him I've become a better person, I am happier and he has revealed so many new experiences and ideas to me. He's also made me a stronger person in that I can say "no" now and can see when someone may be taking advantage of me. Really words cannot express the love and appreciation I have for this man in my life. I know I may still be young, but I've been thru my gloomy days, bad relationships, and broken hearts. With him I can see how he really respects me not just as his girlfriend but as an individual and is constantly supporting and pushing me to strive for better. I know when I am in his arms nothing can harm me, and his words soothe my soul when I am uneasy. He always tries to show me the other side to things and to reevaluate situations and people that may be causing a problem in my life, encouraging me to let go of the unnecessary and focus on the important matters. I know as we continue on our journey of life together, we will only continue to grow and love each other more. So cheers to us for another wonderful year!
