There's No Place Like Home...

So on Wednesday August 25, 2010 my mom went off on a tropical vacation to Hawaii with my uncle and his family. Obviously with her gone I had to take care of the household, at first I thought it would be difficult especially with school just beginning and the possibility of homework. But to my dismay it was very pleasant, since I've my late teens I have avoided being at home... I don't know why but I just did not enjoy being at home it was always a desire of mine to be out and about. And when the boyfriend came along I started spending more time with him, as well as hanging out at his house. These past 6 days, I've been at home if I weren't at school, hanging out with thee bf, shopping, or with my bff. It wasn't until I sat at home with my dad and sisters on a Friday night did I realize how much I really missed this feeling or comfort so to say. My dad and I spent several hours sitting in the living room chatting and watching tv.

He said something that really tugged on my heart strings...

basically he said his time with me was running thin because I was growing up and one day soon I would leave home to begin my future... When everyone went to bed, I laid awake thinking about the words my father had said... I was a bit sad but felt a strange feeling of reassurance. I've always been a daddy's girl and the bond we have is indescribable. Reflecting upon the conversation now it only motivates me more to become successful so that I may take care of my family, and have time to take them traveling and simply be with them. My dad is not a man of many emotions, but he loves the family wholeheartedly and although he may not express it his actions say it all.

sorry for the hurt ass picture, but this is my papa we were playing around with the bf's iphone4 camera :]he was so fascinated with the double sided camera and he's chowing down on a banana. this was taken during the summer at my grandma's. i think my dad has the kindest eyes, he's not a man of many words or emotions; but the man loves to eat!

what I thought would be a dreadful week turned out to be something so enlightening. i need to make more time for my family <3

okay well enough upon reflection, this weekend was my friend Kim's 23rd birthday celebration. I forgot to bring along my camera so I will have to wait till she uploads her share of pictures. but other than that I am just gearing up for school, all the professors seem pretty chill but I know the workload this semester will be an obstacle; i know i can do this! Also, I am still in the process of uploading pictures from my summer adventures and my visit to Vancouver.

My mommy is coming home tomorrow! Hooray :]

Until the next post,
Shirley

  1. Your father sounds really sweet! I understand what you mean about being a daddy's girl and having a dad who doesn't display/express his emotions as much; it just means a hundred times more when he DOES say something emotional!

Oh and you commented and said my skin looks flawless, but that's exactly what I was thinking when I ran across your blog! I was like, "DAAAANG this girl's skin is amazing!" Really!

Looking forward to your posts about summer!

  2. Aww, I'm happy you got to spend some QT with your dad. My dad's a pretty emotional guy when it comes down to it but rarely expresses his feelings. So it's always nice to see that it doesn't take a lot to make him happy and to feel loved by his daughter. Your post is a good reminder of being thankful for my family :) Okay, enough sap, hurry up with your Vancouver pics! It's funny but I really want to see pics of my hometown. I'm curious cause it's from a tourist point of view :)
